Experience the Flyingshears
Message to Flyingshears |
I met Bruce 16 years ago. He was my guitar teacher and barber then. Over the years, we have become such close friends that he longer charged me nor my wife for hair cuts. Everytime we are in his shop we would go out for dinner, chat, jam guitar or listen to music. I witnessed the birth and development of the Flyingshears technique. In fact, I believe I was one of the first to receive a flying shear hair cut performed in my home. When Bruce decided to leave, I was faced with a dilemma. Where am i going to find some one to cut my hair and my wife's hair like Bruce. Am I willing to pay outrageous fees to get a lesser cut? In the end, I decided to learn Flyingshears to cut my hair and my wife's hair. Yes, you heard me. I was going to cut my own hair. Bruce has been doing it for many years, and he gave me the confidence that I can do it too. I am a right handed person, but to be able to perform Flyingshears, I must be able to cut with both hands. Thus, my first task was to train my left hand. I thought this would be months if not years of training before I can even begin to use my left hand. The reality was 1 week! Of course, I can't do many things with my left hand still, but after a week of practice I can at least handle the scissor and begin to move properly. Bruce spent less than 2 days to train me, and for the past 9 months, I have been cutting my own hair, my son's hair, my nephew's hair, my wife's hair, and my sister's hair. My sister was extremely happy with the results. Heck, I think I may have to start charging people. I can not think of any reason why a professional would not pick this technique up if an amateur like myself can do it with a week's practice. - 11 August 2004 San Francisco -Alan Leung (Senior Engineer) |
